Time Shift(ed) is the latest in an ongoing series of monthly music releases from The OM Sound that began in summer 2021. In keeping with their varied and eclectic style, this latest tune evokes a carefree and laid-back feeling in the listener, with a beach themed video immersing viewers in the sun-drenched summer vibes we all crave at this time of year.

Interestingly, the track is based on a previous release from the band - “Time Shift” from 2016’s Gardens in the Ghetto album. Musically, it borrows the same 2-chord vamp of the original tune, with some slight harmonic variation for added spice. The reincarnated version also features rap lyrics by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Orion Miller. While the lyrics are imbued with Miller’s characteristic style of conscious hip-hop, they still maintain a light and playful quality, which suits the overall mood of the video. The rap verse gives way to a soulful guitar solo, building to a crescendo, all the while accompanied by Marina Durham’s unrelenting rhythmic support on Rhodes electric piano. Drummer Varoujan Mardirossian holds down the funky hip hop beats, gradually shifting (no puns!) to a saggy, glitchy outro section.
